Independence Pass/Highway 82
This 20-mile road climbs from Aspen to the top of Independence Pass, which
is the highest paved pass in Colorado. The route is most popular during the
summer. Cyclists share the road with car traffic. The ride is challenging,
but cyclists can turn around at any point. Be sure to put this biking trip
on your itinerary!

Springs and is a popular choice for road biking. Easy to access, the Rio
Grande Trail is a great option for families with children.

Bells. Biking paths for all skill levels make it family-friendly. From
mid-June to October between 8 AM and 5 PM, the Maroon Bells can only be
reached by public bus. Visit on a weekday and enjoy the top-notch bus
service for the best experience.
Road Biking in Basalt
Follow routes along sparkling rivers and through scenic valleys in Basalt.
It's one of the access points for the Rio Grande Trail, which crosses the
parking lot of Basalt High School. For an intermediate level ride, bike the
Frying Pan Road 15 miles uphill to Ruedi Reservoir.
Castle Creek Road and Ashcroft
This intermediate trail rewards the cyclist with a visit to the ghost town
of Ashcroft, once a silver mining town. Bring along a picnic and explore the
local history.
